Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove Hints

How do I unlock the trunk in the nautical bedroom?

  • 1 of 13: The goal here is to arrange the seven sets of hands so that every point on the not-quite-a-clock-face is covered without any overlapping hands.
  • 2 of 13: To start, pick up a set of hands, drop it on the clock, and click on the hub at the center of the clock to rotate the piece on top. When you think you've got it in a good place, pick up another piece and do the same.
  • 3 of 13: There are lots of different ways to solve this puzzle, and any way that works is the right one. However, if you can't get it and it's driving you nuts, here's one way that works for me.
  • 4 of 13: First, mentally number the points on the clock face from 1 at the top and going clockwise around to 15. (Told you it wasn't quite a clock.) Now notice that the hands are spaced differently -- one has no spaces between the hands, one has one space between, one has two, and so on.
  • 5 of 13: The one fixed hand on the clock points to 9. Place the hands like this:
  • 6 of 13: -- No spaces between the hands: 7, 8 (right next to the fixed hand).
  • 7 of 13: -- One space: 1, 3
  • 8 of 13: -- Two spaces: 11, 14
  • 9 of 13: -- Three spaces: 13, 2
  • 10 of 13: -- Four spaces: 10, 5
  • 11 of 13: -- Five spaces: 15, 6
  • 12 of 13: -- Six spaces: 12, 4
  • 13 of 13: The item in the trunk will come in handy when you finally have a way to start the generator.
