DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil Hints
Bloodstone
Damage: none
First Found: Erebus Level 1 (you start the game with it)
This interesting new artifact is your replacement for the soulcube, which was lost during the demon-stopping endgame in the main DOOM 3 game. You bring up this artifact the same way you did the soulcube (by pressing the Q key).
The Bloodstone doesn't work at all at first -- it needs to be charged up. That'll happen automatically when you kill the first of three special hunter demons that come hunting for it. Killing each hunter adds an effect to using the Bloodstone. After killing the first hunter in Erebus Level 2, you can use the Bloodstone to temporarily speed up your relative time so that you move much faster than any nearby enemies, moving traps, etc. That can make dodging enemy fire and getting in for a good clean shot *much* easier and safer than normal! In fact, there are many situations where you can use it to just speed by a bunch of enemies and run on into the next area without fighting them.
The second hunter demon is in Erebus Level 6, and he'll upgrade your Bloodstone to add the berserk ability. That means that every time you use the Bloodstone from that point on, you'll be sped up *and* your weapons will do far more damage than normal. Note, though, that no type of damage resistance comes along with the berserk power-up, like with the two berserk packs you can find in the main DOOM 3 game. You have to wait for the third hunter demon in Phobos Labs Sector 2 to get invulnerability added to the mix.
Like the soulcube, the Bloodstone works off of soul charges. However, it requires human soul charges, not just any old creature. Fortunately, it can suck up charges from any dead human body you come across (note that you have to be holding the artifact in front of you for this to happen). It can hold up to three charges at a time, and can only suck in new charges if it has less than three currently. Fortunately, there are plenty of human corpses strewn about in just about every area of the game, so you can use your Bloodstone frequently and not have to worry about running out of charges for very long.
