How can I survive the major attack in the starting room?

  • 1 of 5: Notice that the attack starts with an archvile teleporting in near one of the locked doors.
  • 2 of 5: Rush his position with the chainsaw and saw him up quickly, hopefully before he can gate in a hellknight. One hellknight is going to teleport in no matter what, and if the archvile brings in another one, you're in *big* trouble.
  • 3 of 5: Since you can't exit the room, ready the BFG as soon as you kill the archvile and blast one hellknight to death with it.
  • 4 of 5: Then use the soulcube on the second one (or on the first one if there's only one) -- hopefully that beauty is charged!
  • 5 of 5: TIP: Once the archvile is dead, it can be helpful to quickly run around and back into the elevator shaft before firing on the hellknights. That way you'll have cover on three sides.
