Dracula: Origin Hints

How can I open the safe in the lounge?

  • 1 of 16: In order to open the safe, you need to first realize that there are twelve dials at the bottom of the screen, which can be rotated in any of eight directions.
  • 2 of 16: You need to also realize that while the safe is in the lounge, on the first floor in the library, there is another stone plate with a very similar design on, only without the dials.
  • 3 of 16: The text that is written on the plates is very important.
  • 4 of 16: Though, only select pieces of the text are important.
  • 5 of 16: Did you notice the small raised areas below the text? It's almost as if they are spelling out individual parts of the text that mean something.
  • 6 of 16: However the text doesn't seem to match up.
  • 7 of 16: How about if the raised areas on the lounge's plate meant something to the text on the library's plate, and vice versa?
  • 8 of 16: Find a way to take a rubbing of each plate, and bring it to the other one.
  • 9 of 16: Once you have the rubbings, take them back to the opposite plate and place them on it.
  • 10 of 16: Certain letters will be revealed under the raised areas in the paper -- but now these letters look a little more relevant, don't they?
  • 11 of 16: The letters from the safe are: SE, E, N, SE, N, SE, and the letters from the library's plate are N, E, N, S, SE, E.
  • 12 of 16: They look a lot like compass bearings, don't they?
  • 13 of 16: And there are twelve of them. Just like there are twelve dials.
  • 14 of 16: Rotate each of the dials to the bearings given, from left to right.
  • 15 of 16: Doing so will open the safe.
  • 16 of 16: The final combination is: SE, E, N, SE, N, SE, N, E, N, S, SE, E.
