Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon Hints

How can I decode the message on the table?

  • 1 of 12: Start by examining the message's header.
  • 2 of 12: Notice that the first five letters of the word "September" are underlined.
  • 3 of 12: Also notice the five Roman numerals that are in the header.
  • 4 of 12: They're the same Roman numerals as the ones on the five rotors at the top of the decoder, and they're in the same order (unless you've been switching the rotors around).
  • 5 of 12: Each rotor has a letter on top of it that can be changed by using the little wheel that's to the right of it.
  • 6 of 12: Click and hold on a wheel, then move the mouse up or down until the letter you want is showing.
  • 7 of 12: Maybe the rotors' letters need to be set to the underlined letters on the page's header.
  • 8 of 12: Put the rotors back in IV-III-I-V-II order if you've moved them around, then change the letters on top of them to be S-E-P-T-E.
  • 9 of 12: The decoder is now set up to decode the page's message.
  • 10 of 12: So start by typing UARC (hit the U, A, R, and C keys on the decoder's keyboard, not your own), since that's the first part of the first line of the coded message.
  • 11 of 12: Finish the first line by typing QRVDUTDCKOHQ, then start in on the second line. (There's no spacebar or carriage return to hit, so just keep typing.)
  • 12 of 12: If you get halfway through the third line without very many mistakes, Father Arno will automatically finish it and put the decoded report in with your documents.
