Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon Hints

How can I figure out the answer?

  • 1 of 16: Pick any number from 1 to 5 and see how it moves around from day to day.
  • 2 of 16: Let's take the number 2 as an example.
  • 3 of 16: On Sunday, it's in the leftmost slot. On Monday and Tuesday, it's in the rightmost slot. On Wednesday, it's in the next-to-rightmost slot, and on Thursday it's back in the leftmost slot.
  • 4 of 16: It's easier to see what's happening if you mentally number the slots 1 to 5.
  • 5 of 16: So on Sunday, the 2 is in slot 1. The next day, it moves to slot 5, then to slot 5 (again), then to slot 4, and finally to slot 1.
  • 6 of 16: What is there about the 2 that would suggest the numeric sequence 1-5-5-4-1?
  • 7 of 16: Try ignoring the initial 1, since it's the 2's position on the first day.
  • 8 of 16: Notice the number that's to the right of the 2 on each day. (If the 2 is in slot 5, the number that's to the right of it is the number in slot 1.)
  • 9 of 16: You'll see that on Sunday, the 5 is to the right of the 2. The same is true on Monday (remembering the wrap-around rule).
  • 10 of 16: So apparently, the position of a number on each day (except Sunday) depends on the number that was to the right of it on the previous day.
  • 11 of 16: Now you can use the Thursday values to figure out what the Friday values are.
  • 12 of 16: In Thursday's list, the 1 has a 5 to the right of it, so the 1 goes in slot 5 on Friday's list, giving ?-?-?-?-1.
  • 13 of 16: The 2 has a 4 to the right of it on Thursday's list, so the 2 will go in slot 4 on Friday's list, giving ?-?-?-2-1.
  • 14 of 16: Keeping that up, you'll find that Friday's list is 4-3-5-2-1.
  • 15 of 16: Apply the same routine to Friday's list to get Saturday's list.
  • 16 of 16: You should get 2-5-4-1-3.
