Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Hints
Keep the Tentacles Alive Strategy
of 8: The basis for this strategy is the fact that if none of the four tentacles are ever killed, you won't see one single childer grub during the entire fight. Also, tentacles will stop attacking you and just curl up when their health gets low enough.
of 8: As soon as the combat begins, pause the game and get everyone to equip ranged weapons. For those who are using bows, give them the best magic arrows you have. (Ditto with crossbows and bolts.)
of 8: Have everyone hold position so they won't be running around on their own, then select the entire party and right-click on the Mother to get everyone to attack her.
of 8: Unpause the game, then quickly hit the Mother with the Tower of Flame and Architect's Pyre. As soon as the pyre is activated, pause the game and click on a spot a short way back to get your party to run out of the pyre's range.
of 8: Hopefully, the pyre will injure some of the tentacles without killing them. After the tentacles follow you back outside of the pyre's range, use Tower of Trauma to stun them, then target the ones that aren't near death and injure them until they are. Remember that you don't want to kill any of them in order to avoid grub swarms.
of 8: After the tentacles are all nearly dead, get everyone to attack the Mother again. Your melee warriors won't be able to do her much damage with their bows, but they at least will be doing some damage without getting themselves killed.
of 8: Your primary damage dealer will be your mage, who hopefully knows the Inferno, Blizzard, and Tempest spells. Keep casting those on the Mother to cause her constant pain.
of 8: While you're doing that, don't neglect to use Heal and Group HealĀ (and Tower of Healing) when necessary to counteract the effects of the Mother's toxic spit. At least you won't be getting damaged very fast with that being the only thing attacking you.
