Do I have to have Velanna with me for the rest of the quest?
1 of 3: Even though the game insists you add her to your current party when she joins you, you can ditch her if you don't feel like taking her through the mine with you.
2 of 3: Before getting captured in the mine, go back to Vigil's Keep. Enter and exit the throne room to get the option to choose your companions, then choose the three you want.
3 of 3: NOTE: If your problem with Velanna is that her skill points and/or spells aren't distributed to your liking, you could buy a Manual of Focus from Herren in the keep's courtyard and use it on her to totally redo everything. The only disadvantage is that the manuals cost 6 gold each.
