Dragon Age: Origins Hints

The Sword of the Beresaad

  • 1 of 12: To get this quest and its "Locate Sten's sword" objective, get Sten's approval rating to 26+ and ask him why he was in that cage in Lothering.
  • 2 of 12: Go to the Lake Calenhad Docks area and look for a scavenger next to the world map transition point.
  • 3 of 12: Talk to the scavenger about Sten's missing sword to learn that a guy named Faryn might have it.
  • 4 of 12: Travel to the Frostback Mountains area and find Faryn in the surface dwarf camp. (Note that if this is your first visit to the region, you'll have to fight some bounty hunters on your way to the camp.)
  • 5 of 12: Ask him about the sword to find out that he sold it to a guy in Redcliffe named Dwyn.
  • 6 of 12: NOTE: Entering Redliffe Village will commit you to doing the first part of the Redcliffe Treaty Quests, in which you save the village from an undead attack.
  • 7 of 12: You can mention Sten's missing sword when you first talk to Dwyn in his home prior to the attack, but it's best to wait on that so you can get a few extra items along with it.
  • 8 of 12: After the village is saved, return to Dwyn's home and ask about the sword.
  • 9 of 12: Say that he'd better hand it over before Sten gets ugly, and he'll give you the key to the nearby locked chest.
  • 10 of 12: Open the chest to find Sten's sword and a few other items.
  • 11 of 12: NOTE: If you get Sten's sword from Dwyn before the undead attack, there's no way to get the key to the chest.
  • 12 of 12: The sword will start out as an unusable gift item. Give it as a gift to Sten to turn it into Asala, a magic greatsword that only Sten can use.
