Dragon Age: Origins Hints

Castle Optionals

  • 1 of 9: Leave the kitchen and go north to find a locked door. You'll only be able to open it and loot the sacks in the room past it if your character is a rogue.
  • 2 of 9: You can also find a locked chest in a room north of the main hall, plus two locked doors just east of the main hall that lead to rooms with locked chests. (Warrior characters are really getting cheated here!)
  • 3 of 9: In the SE room, you can talk to Mother Mallol to get a codex entry, and read the books on the podium and shelves for two more.
  • 4 of 9: There's yet another locked room south of the main hall that has two locked chests and a weapon stand in it. (Though note that even rogues may not be able to pick open one of the chests.)
  • 5 of 9: If you visit the guard post that's down the short hallway just west of that, you can chastise some lazy treasury guards, but it won't get you anything.
  • 6 of 9: In the nearby library, use the "Highlight objects" key to find two books that you can read for codex entries, then question Aldous thoroughly to get two more.
  • 7 of 9: Check the study to find another codex-giving book, then head north to the start of the hallway that gives access to the castle's western section.
  • 8 of 9: After talking to your mother and her companions, return to the library's study, where you can flirt with Iona to get an optional quest (though it's rather pointless).
  • 9 of 9: Return to the western section to find another locked door at the point where the hallway turns south. Rogues can open that door for a bit of XP, though there's nothing in the room beyond it.
