Dragon Age: Origins Hints
Southern Area Optionals
of 8: Go back across the bridge and examine the Chasind trail sign that's nearby. That'll finally get you the related "Chasind Trail Signs" quest.
of 8: Just past the other side of the bridge is a dead soldier you can loot to get a pouch of ashes and entry #304 in the quest-related section of your codex.
of 8: Head down the trail that's south of the soldier and defeat the genlock rogue ambush, then right-click on the "Chasind Cache" log to find a large stash of items and end the trail sign quest.
of 8: Look for a nearby elfroot plant, then head back to the dead soldier.
of 8: Go north to find a deathroot plant near a pile of rocks NW of the area's big pond.
of 8: Right-click on the rocks and choose to sprinkle some of the dead soldier's ash on them. That will cause a hostile ash wraith named Gazarath to appear nearby. It's very powerful, so hit it with all you've got and don't spare the healing poultices.
of 8: Loot the pile of rags that appear after Gazarath is defeated, then see if you can loot it again to get another item.
of 8: Look for an elfroot plant next to a log a bit north of the big pond, then go back to the outpost ruins and look for a deathroot plant near the outer west wall.
