Dragon Age: Origins Hints

The Last Request

  • 1 of 18: You get this quest by taking the journal from Ser Friden's body in the rundown back street area, which you'll visit on the "Back Alley Justice" quest. (NOTE: This entire quest is all stuck in under the one objective of "Find and eradicate the maleficarum in the Alienage," so these hints won't have an objective list.)
  • 2 of 18: You can't travel to the alienage directly, but notice that there's now a deserted building you can travel to.
  • 3 of 18: Inside the building, right-click on the interactive bookcase that's concealing a door.
  • 4 of 18: Open the door, then use the Lead-Them-Off Strategy to deal with the blood mage and his merc pals in the next room.
  • 5 of 18: Raid the armor stand in their room, then get the key from the dead blood mage and use it to open the next door.
  • 6 of 18: Look for a barrel to loot past another door, then open the next door and wait for several mercenaries to charge you. After finishing them off, move cautiously into their room, watching for traps and more mercenaries.
  • 7 of 18: Go up the stairs in the NE corner to find some more mercs and a blood mage.
  • 8 of 18: Past the door in the back of their area, approach the open doorway on the right slowly. There are more mercs and two blood mages in the room beyond.
  • 9 of 18: Check their room for a locked chest, then look in the west-side room for another locked chest and a wooden crate.
  • 10 of 18: North of the two-mage side room, watch for a big floor trigger that will set off some fire traps and alert the mercs and rogues that are behind the two nearby doors if you don't have your rogue disarm it.
  • 11 of 18: After you finish the mercs and rogues off, check the north room for two locked chests, then go through the east door and down the hall until you find (and hopefully disarm) another floor trap trigger. If you set it off, have everyone retreat out of the fire traps' range and wait for mabari hounds to come after you.
  • 12 of 18: Kill the hounds, then go over to where you can attack the mercs and blood mage who are behind a barricade. You can use ranged attacks, or you can bash through the barricade for some melee action.
  • 13 of 18: Open any of the three eastern doors and use the lead-them-off strategy to take down the mercs and blood mages in the next room. (Note that there are three blood mages, one of which is ranked.)
  • 14 of 18: Loot the weapon stand in their room, then open the east door and lure as many of the enemies in the next room (which includes another ranked blood mage) as you can out of it.
  • 15 of 18: Go through their room and check the locked room on the right for a cabinet and chest (note the cool Magister's Shield amulet), then go through the south door to find the blood mage leader.
  • 16 of 18: As soon as combat begins, run your whole party back to the previous blood mage battle room and lure enemies to you there. If you're lucky, they won't all follow you right away.
  • 17 of 18: Loot the blood mage leader's body after the battle to get a bedroom key, then enter the side room you already unlocked to finish the quest. (Apparently, it's the room that the key is for.)
  • 18 of 18: When you're ready to go, use the door in the blood mage leader's room.
