Dragon Age: Origins Hints
Is there a way to do both of the "first task" quests?
1 of 5: Once you finish either one of the first-task quests, the other one will automatically count as failed.
2 of 5: There is a tricky way to finish both quests, but if you do that, you'll never be able to get either of the "second task" quests.
3 of 5: Just pick one quest and complete it. You'll be able to explore the other quest's area later on.
4 of 5: As for whether you should support Bhelen or Harrowmont, it doesn't really matter. The quests following the "first task" quests will be nearly identical no matter who you support.
5 of 5: That said, siding with Prince Bhelen does have three minor advantages. You get earlier access to the Royal Palace's west wing, you get earlier access to the area that the other guy's quest would have taken you to (the Proving Grounds), and you can pickpocket Lord Dace to get a magic dagger. Siding with Harrowmont will delay your access to both the palace's west wing and the Aeducan Thaig, and you'll never get to pickpocket Lord Dace (though you can find an identical magic dagger in the Caridin's Cross area later on).
