Dragon Age II Hints
Break into Gascard DuPuis's Hightown estate after dark to see if there's ....
1 of 9: Travel to Hightown on the Kirkwall Night map, then go to the Hightown Estates area to the SW. (Watch out for a bunch of "invisible sister" hostiles in both the square and estates area if you haven't done the Hightown at Night tour yet.)
2 of 9: The door to the DuPuis estate is near the SE corner of the estates area. Go inside and move forward a bit to be attacked by two waves of shades. Finish them off, then go up the stairs and kill the rage demon that's next to the fireplace.
3 of 9: Go through either eastern upstairs door to enter a large room with several shades in it. Kill them off, then read the note that's on one of the tables to get a codex entry.
4 of 9: In the hallway past that room's east door, go south to find a room with a chest that contains a rune design, then go back north and through the other openable door.
5 of 9: Go up some stairs and read the note on the table for a codex entry, then open the north door to meet up with Gascard DuPuis.
6 of 9: After he explains about his sister's killer, you can either offer to help him or say you don't believe him. If you offer to help, he'll leave without a fight, and you'll get the "Tell Emeric at the Gallows that Gascard is not guilty" objective. (Note that letting him go will give you an extra option in another quest.)
7 of 9: If you choose to not believe him, he and some summoned shades will attack you. Focus everyone's attacks on Gascard until he vanishes, then finish off the shades. Loot the chest in the room before leaving it to find more shades to kill.
8 of 9: Go back down the stairs and turn right, then go through two doors to find even more shades to fight. Look for a locked chest in the center of the room, then go through the next door to encounter a desire demon and some shades. (The demon can heal the shades, so you may want to focus on taking her down first.) Watch out for abominations joining the fight, too.
9 of 9: Exit that room and go south until you can turn left, then look for a door on the right. Past it is Gascard (back at full health) plus some abominations and shades. As before, hit Gascard with all you've got right off, then go after his summoned allies.
