Dragon Age II Hints

How can I handle the confrontation with the Arishok?

  • 1 of 7: Your options at this point will depend on several things you may or may not have done in the past.
  • 2 of 7: The only way to end the confrontation without a fight is to let the Arishok take Isabela. This is only possible if you recruited her as a companion in Act I and did her companion quest and main plot quest in this act.
  • 3 of 7: If you can't or won't give up Isabela, you'll be able to get the Arishok to fight you in a one-on-one duel if you've done enough to earn his respect or if Fenris is with you.
  • 4 of 7: Even if you have the option of a one-on-one duel, it's probably not the best choice, since fighting the Arishok with only your main character can be *really* hard. (Though if you're able to summon a mabari hound, that'll make it a bit easier.)
  • 5 of 7: The only other option is an all-out fight between your party and the Arishok's. He'll set four qunari honor guards on you first, then he'll talk to you again briefly before attacking with all the rest of the qunari in the room. (If he offered you a one-on-one duel and you refused, the big attack will happen right away without the honor guard fight.)
  • 6 of 7: As with most qunari combats, you need to eliminate the weaker horde before focusing on the stronger leader. Have your mages unleash area-of-effect spells right away, then get everyone to attack nearby qunari.
  • 7 of 7: The Arishok has two saarebas up on his floor, and you'll want to take them out soon. Do your best to avoid the Arishok's powerful attacks until you're ready to focus everyone on him.
