How can I rescue Iwan?
1 of 5: Go down the passage that's east of where you found Emrys.
2 of 5: Loot the bones in the large room, then move on to the next room to find Iwan fighting several hurlocks.
3 of 5: During the conversation following the combat, you'll need to get the golem control rod from Iwan.
4 of 5: You can pay him 50 silver, threaten him into giving it to you, or let Varric handle the negotiations if he's with you.
5 of 5: TIP: Loot the pile of bones in Iwan's room, then go back the way you came and around to where Merin was. The darkspawn who killed him (including two spellcasting emissaries) will still be there, and you can get more combat XP and loot from them.
