Does it matter what I tell him?
1 of 3: Some companions like you sending him to the Circle, and others like you sending him to the Dalish.
2 of 3: In particular, Aveline and Fenris like the Circle, and Anders and Bethany like the Dalish. As usual, you'll get friendship points by doing what companions like, and rivalry points for doing something they dislike.
3 of 3: Also, your choice will affect certain events in Act II. Sending him to the Circle will get you a special side quest, and sending him to the Dalish will get you a special encounter at Sundermount.
