Dragon Age II Hints
Get Athenril's coin from Cavril the merchant in the Gallows Courtyard market.
1 of 6: Go back south to the main courtyard area, then go over to the merchant's stall and talk to Merchant Cavril.
2 of 6: After he concludes business with someone else, say that Athenril sent you.
3 of 6: If you want to resolve the situation peacefully, choose the "Aveline?" option to get her to intercede. Note that this also gets you some friendship points with her. After Cavril leaves, loot the nearby chest to get 2 gold coins and the next objective.
4 of 6: If you want to keep the 2 gold coins for yourself, tell Cavril you could be persuaded to go, then agree to his deal. This will get you some rivalry points with Aveline, and will make finishing Athenril's task impossible. You'll have to switch to doing Meeran's.
5 of 6: The other two dialogue options will cause Cavril to sic his two guards on you. After they're defeated, several mercenaries will show up and attack.
