Gamlen's Greatest Treasure

  • 1 of 11: After finishing the "Visit Gamlen" quest, read the crumpled note that's on the table near him to get this quest.
  • 2 of 11: Talk to Gamlen about the note, then go to Darktown and look for Mekel in the area east of the big path intersection.
  • 3 of 11: No matter what you say to Mekel, he and his mercs will attack. After finishing them off, loot Mekel to get a note about a special mallet.
  • 4 of 11: Return to Gamlen's house and talk to him about the mallet, then examine the mallet that's on the wall near him.
  • 5 of 11: To get the next clue, leave Gamlen's house and go examine the huge tree that's in the middle of the Elven Alienage area.
  • 6 of 11: The clue says to go to Smetty's Fish Guttery at night, so travel to the Docks region on the Kirkwall Night map and look for the guttery entrance in the SW part of the region.
  • 7 of 11: Your next stop is the new "The Sink" area on the Free Marches map. Move into its first cave room to get attacked by undead followed by giant spiders.
  • 8 of 11: Head down the stairs and through a door, then go down some more stairs to reach the north end of a large path loop. You need to get to the large cave that's near the south end of the loop, and you can only do that by going east.
  • 9 of 11: Enter the cave to start a conversation that ends with a guy named Veld attacking with a bunch of mercs.
  • 10 of 11: While talking to Charade after the combat, you can say that she should meet Gamlen, or you can tell her to hand over the gem. Having her meet Gamlen gives them both happy endings, but you won't get the gem (which is actually a magic amulet) or quite as much XP.
  • 11 of 11: In any case, loot the barrel at the north end of the cave, then go to the west end to find a locked chest and a map exit you can use. Return to Gamlen's house and talk to him to finish the quest.
