Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Hints
How do I get past the spider in Reza's apartment?
of 17: This spider is some sort of robot that the EYE seems to have left behind, and it's meant to keep "intruders" like you from poking around. It also seems to have had a pretty nasty effect on Reza's Watilla.
of 17: It doesn't seem to be looking at anything after it zaps the Watilla, but it's still fairly sensitive to sounds.
of 17: That means you'll need to sneak as much as possible -- hold down CONTROL key on your keyboard or the left trigger on your gamepad while you're walking around.
of 17: Be careful not to step on anything that might make noise, or the spider will hear you and come looking for you.
of 17: Your best bet is to start by walking down the stairs into the "living room" -- basically straight ahead as you're coming through the front door. (Don't turn left toward the bathroom, as there's some glass on the floor there, that will wake up the spider.)
of 17: Stay in between the spider and the broken Watilla. And of course, continue to avoid the junk on the floor -- or else you'll make noise that the spider can hear. Yes, this will take you closer to the spider than you might ordinarily think is safe, but as long as you don't actually step on the spider, and as long as you continue to sneak, this is perfectly safe.
of 17: From there, wrap your way around the spider counterclockwise, toward the kitchen and the bed. Again, be careful not to step on any junk or debris, or the spider may hear you.
of 17: Well, now you've at least gotten into the rest of the apartment, but you're going to need to find that notebook, and you can't do that as long as the spider's still guarding everything. This means you need to find some way of squishing the spider for good (figuratively speaking, at least).
of 17: Remember that the spider is a robot.
of 17: And it probably doesn't like water all that much.
of 17: Reza has a nice shower in the bathroom that would probably disable the spider if you could convince it to go inside. (It's safe to go into the bathroom, as long as you go around the spider counterclockwise from the front door as I've described -- don't just turn left after you enter the apartment, or it will hear you.)
of 17: Take a look at the control panel that's on the outside.
of 17: It controls everything -- not just the water, but also the stereo system.
of 17: Remember that the spider is sensitive to sounds, and may come to investigate any disturbance.
of 17: If the shower door is open, using the controls will turn on the stereo.
of 17: Once the spider hears the music, it will come to investigate, and walk right into the shower. (You can open and close the door by clicking on it directly. If you already closed the door before using the panel, you may need to open the door and then use the controls again.)
of 17: Close the door, and the water will turn on -- zapping the spider for good.
