Magic level booster
Here is a scheme that will boost your magic users' stats, overnight! (Literally.) Be sure to do a save game before you attempt this.
Take your party to a mana shrine, or wait until you come across one in your normal travel. Make sure you do *not* kill all the nearby monsters. Have every party member go into "Defend" and "Hold Ground" mode so they don't wander around or accidentally kill those valuable monsters. Put all the magic users' active spells onto healing spells (combat healing or nature healing spells, as you wish). Put all the magic users in the inner circle of the mana shrine. Have the fighters (or archers will work as well) go and find a few monsters, and lure them to near the shrine. Don't bring them so close that they start attacking the magic users, who tend to die too quickly for this purpose.
The fighters will start taking damage from the monsters' attacks. The magic users will automatically start to heal the fighters, lowering their mana level. The mana shrine will continuously refill the magic users' mana. And so the cycle continues -- the only lasting change being that the magic users will be acquiring experience all the while. After checking for safe operation, leave the whole setup running overnight, and you should see a boost of many levels on all your spell casters. I got 25 levels of magic experience in total on a party of four mages overnight. Need more levels? Let it run longer! Your magic users will also pick up intelligence and other stats in the process.
To optimize leveling up, without killing any of your fighters, you can play with the armor on the fighters. Take armor off to get more damage, or put armor on to decrease damage. If you have four magic users, and you adjust the damage level right, three of them will be out of mana, and one will have a full bar that drops down a bit every once in a while. If you run out of mana even with all the armor on all the fighters, you must kill one of the monsters and try again.
