Duke Nukem 3D Hints
How can I make my own levels?
Making your own Duke Nukem 3D level is rather difficult, but not impossible. Read the online documentation for some tips about this. I personally think that, if they can include a free Mouse Pad with the game, then they should be able to include a small handbook about building levels. Unfortunately, they didn't. If you still don't understand it, check out various online bulletin boards for some information. One good FAQ called MAPFAQ, can be found on the Apogee area on America On-Line (3D Realms Software Library, in User Submitted Duke 3D Levels), that goes into depth about making levels. It's currently at version 0.2.
One piece of information I've learned--you'd better have a good system if you want to make your own levels. My personal tests have come across that fact that the Build editor doesn't work right on systems without a math-coprocessor. On the two machines I tried (both 486's, one an SX/33, the other an SX2/50), going into 3D mode in complicated levels crashed the editor. My only tip is to buy a faster computer or upgrade your processor (gee, what a helpful bit of info, huh?).
