Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty Hints

Attacking the enemy

  • In the beginning, make all Quads, or when you get them, all tanks.  Since there is a unit limit, the more of the powerful units you have, the better.  If you reach your limit, and have some Trikes you want to get rid of, send them on recon suicide missions so you can make a more powerful vehicle.

Since there isn't anyway to group units (i.e. take a handful of units and tell them attack one target at one time), what works best is to set the speed on the slowest setting, then sending your guys to attack.

ATTACK RULE:  Always gang up on the enemy. Example: If you have 8 Quads in a group, and you find two enemy Quads, tell 4 of your guys to attack each enemy. This way you can kill them quicker.  Plus, if you only fight one unit, tell EVERYONE in your group attack that one bad guy.

When attacking more than one unit, it's up to you to decide who's better to kill first.  What do I mean by this?  If I had two tanks, against one Quad and one Siege Tank, what would I do?  Would I (A) Tell both Tanks to attack the Siege Tank, since it does the most damage, (B) Tell both Tanks to attack the Quad, since it will be the quickest to kill, or (C) Tell one Tank to attack the Quad and tell the other to attack the Siege Tank.  If you said C, you've disobeyed the gang-up rule earlier, and is a good way to get your Tanks destroyed.  A and B can be both good answers; you'll just have to weigh yourself on which would be better.  Consider how much damage each of the units have.  Or simply see if you have any backup to send up to help out.

Occasionally, a Carry-All will give you re-enforcements. Use these well.  And make sure to move them off the sand, so they won't get eaten!
