Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty Hints
Mission #9: I've got three houses against me!
For your information, this is the last level you will fight in before you reach the end. In addition to the two opposing houses (one in the upper-left, one in the upper-right) you have an entire legion of Sarduakar to destroy (in the middle). Since this level seems to have the same layout no matter who you are, I'll try to point out specific areas. You start near the bottom. Don't build everything close together, as you'll have two missiles coming your way soon (one if you're the Harkonnen). Separate with concrete blocks so most of buildings won't get wiped out in one fell swoop by the inevitable Deathhand. Build guys like you have before. Move your guys away from the Repair Facility, as just like the normal guys, missiles will be thrown at this buildings, and any vehicles by it will be toast. Use your special Palace abilities when you can. Harkonnen Deathhands can be useful to destroy what you want (save and restore until you do).
There is an area of rock near the middle -- send your guys there and build a new base. Most units should be sent up here, and rest behind. In addition to a Constrcution Yard, build a Heavy Vehicle Factory, a Repair Faciltiy (out of the way, preferabley), and a Starport if you have the room. From here, have Rocket Launchers attack the Harvester, which will deny them some money and leave some for you. This will also attract enemy units, which you should be able to destroy if you brought enough guys. Now, attack the house in the upper right first. Once you destroy them, take over their rock, and proceed to make a new one (with another Heavy Vehicle Factory, and a Refinery to get any leftover spice).
Now the tough part -- destroying the Sarduakar: Depending on who you are, there should be at least one 2x2 square of Turrets (a second down a bit further, if there is one). As Harkonnens, use a Deathhand to blow one of them up. As anyone else, just take lots of Rocket Launchers and Sonic Tanks (or Siege Tanks) or destroy them. Now, you should have a new base in the way upper right. Attack the Sarduakar from the right side, destroying their Construction Yard and Heavy Vehicle Factory. Sometimes they have two Construction Yards, so be on the lookout. The hardest part is the Palace. In addition to the Turrets I just told you about, the Palace is surrounded by many walls and has Rocket Launchers posed inside to attack. Get rid of the Rocket Launchers first (this will take awhile, because you need to use your Rocket Launchers to kill them. And since they have bad aim, well you should be able to piece it together).
As Harkonnen, try and destroy the Palace with the Deathhand (if it's recharged). If not, use several Devastators to destroy the walls, and keep the Rocket Launchers attacking. As Atreides, use the Sonic Tanks to destroy the walls and damage the Rocket Launchers. As Ordos, use the Deviators on the Rocket Launcher so they will momentarily stop attack, and have them attack the Palace before they come back to their senses. Also have Siege Tanks try and break down the wall. Pretty soon, you should prevail. Go ahead, and knock down the rest of the base. Now, the final base in the upper-left should be easy -- save first, make as many guys as you can (only Devastators as Harkonnen, Sonic and Siege Tanks as Atreides, and Siege Tanks as Ordos). This should be cake compared to what you've gone through. Once it's done, congratulations, you've won!
A note: even with V1.07, I've expirienced occasional crashes playing the last mission, due to the number of enemies. Make sure you have lots of conventional memory before playing. Even if the game does start up, you may not have the memory you need, and can lead to crashes in this mission, and before the ending.
Beat the game as all three houses. The endings are all different, and are pretty cool. And get Command & Conquer, which is kinda the unofficial sequel.
