Sherlock Holmes: Silver Earring Hints
I need help getting to Grimsby's office undetected!
1 of 7: As Sherlock explained, you want to get across the yard to Grimble's office building without being seen by Marty or his dog.
2 of 7: Getting through this takes quite a bit of time, and some trial and error. I'm sure you'll get caught numerous times before you're through! So, it is smart to Save Your Game before entering the yard. (If you fail, you will need to restore a saved game. There is no "second chance" feature in this game!)
3 of 7: You want to follow Marty, trailing behind him -- but not too closely -- deeper into the yard. Watch as Marty and the dog walk the length of the yard and then split up and go opposite directions.
4 of 7: When the dog has his back to you, make your move quickly to Grimsby's office building at the top right of the screen. (Double-clicking with your left mouse button makes Sherlock run. Note that you do not need the "feet" cursor to move. Just click where you want Holmes to go.) Keep reading more hints for more specifics. A graphic with the solution is in the last hint.
5 of 7: There is a small cart (wheelbarrow) to the right of the long building (Workmen's Cloakroom). Stop there and point your cursor at (or near) the door to Grimble's building until you get the "feet" cursor. Marty and the dog will split up (Marty going left and the dog right) and then turn to walk back down. The dog will notice you if you don't act quickly.
6 of 7: Wait until the dog is *almost* at the lamp post -- slightly to the left of it -- and Marty is almost behind the long building (Cloakroom). Then double-left-click (run) to the office building.
7 of 7: Once there, you will see the dog walking away from Sherlock. Use the gold key to unlock the door and go in. Whew!
