Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How can I get past the bear?
of 21: You won't be able to sneak past the sleeping bear. Nor can you attack it directly. You'll need to find some other means of incapacitating the bear, so that Arok can get past.
of 21: In previous caves, the wall frescoes were rather magical.
of 21: You'll have to use the fresco of the bear to help you get past the real bear. Hmm... It seems that the fresco isn't active... yet!
of 21: Perhaps that dark spot on the fresco has something to do with it.
of 21: A piece of the wall has fallen off. You'll have to find it and replace it into the fresco to make it active.
of 21: Once again, this is an "animated" fresco. The fresco shows a scene very similar to where you are right now -- a sleeping bear, overhanging rocks, a man standing at the right of the scene...
of 21: Notice that both the man and the stones near his feet are active.
of 21: Take a stone, and give it to the man. Then direct him to throw the stone at one of the four "hot spot" areas on the fresco.
of 21: He can throw it at the stalactite, the overhanging rocks, the sideways "V" indentation in the rock above the bear, or at the bear itself.
of 21: This puzzle will need some degree of intuition, but also good timing. If you've tried everything you can think of, and nothing worked -- it's possible that the timing was just a little off.
of 21: All moves appear to be instantly fatal, except one.
of 21: If the man throws a stone at the sideways "V" indentation in the rock above the bear, the bear reacts a little differently.
of 21: The man will need to throw a second stone, quickly, while the bear is still distracted by the first one. Note: if you've tried all possible combinations, but couldn't get anything to work, it's possible you need to throw the stones a little faster. Timing is important here.
of 21: The correct place for the man to throw the second stone is at the same "V" in the rock.
of 21: This causes the bear to turn and investigate inside a cave. If the man does nothing more, then the bear will exit the cave again and attack.
of 21: You'll have to find a way to trap the bear inside the cave.
of 21: Notice the rock pile balanced over the cave opening?
of 21: The rocks could be used to trap the bear...
of 21: ...except that the stalactite prevents the stone from hitting the rock pile.
of 21: You'll have to throw a stone at the stalactite first, making it fall.
of 21: You can throw another stone at the overhanging rocks and trap the bear inside the cave. If done quickly enough, the overhanging rocks will fall, trapping the bear. And because this is a magical fresco, what happens in the picture happens in real life -- and the bear is trapped, and Arok can pass by.
