Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How do I create Arok's story for Tika?
of 14: Tika has explained a very interesting custom to Arok. Before they can dialogue, he must tell her "his story" -- i.e., how he came to be here -- using ordinary objects as kind of a "story board". The starting point is the rock bench carved into the left wall (on the left when Arok is facing Tika), near where Arok entered building.
of 14: Look closely at the rock bench surface, and the wall above it. The eleven symbols on the wall are "active".
of 14: Each symbol can play back a part of Arok's journey -- beginning exactly where the game began. But the symbols -- and story fragments -- are out of order.
of 14: The first step is to rearrange the symbols so that their story fragments -- when heard in left-to-right order -- tell an accurate tale of Arok's journey thus far.
of 14: To rearrange any two symbols, click on one symbol -- it will turn red, and you will hear that story fragment -- and then click on another symbol. When two symbols are clicked in order like this, they will exchange places. Note: to listen to a story fragment without changing its order, click on the fragment to listen, then click on the same fragment again.
of 14: It is easiest to work through this puzzle one symbol at a time, working from left to right.
of 14: The first step is to listen to all the fragments and determine their correct order. Once you have determined the order, look for the fragment that belongs in the position at the far left. Click on the fragment that belongs in the far left position, then click on the fragment that is already in position at the far left. Once that position is correctly filled, move on to the next fragment in the row.
of 14: Once the story is correctly rearranged, Arok will make a comment to that effect. But this is only the first half of the task. Now it's time to associate some object with each story fragment. Arok is free to use anything in his inventory, as well as a number of items that can be found inside of -- or just outside of -- Tika's dwelling.
of 14: The objects need to be placed one at a time in their correct order, from left-to-right, until each of the story fragments on the wall are visually represented with a unique object. Note: You will need to click on the stone bench under each of the eleven symbols to place the objects.
of 14: Start with the left-most symbol. You can click on the flashing red story fragment, if you wish, to hear the story associated with it.
of 14: Since the left-most story fragment tells about Arok hunting a stag, you should look for something that represents a stag.
of 14: There are a couple of items that could represent a stag, but only one will work. If you try an item that won't work -- or if you try to use an item that is for a latter part of the story -- Arok will comment that he can find something better.
of 14: Look for the stag antlers and place them at the far left of the bench.
of 14: In this way, continue through the story fragments, one at a time, finding a suitable object for each fragment. In each case, the object used should seem to match something about that portion of the story fragment. In some cases, there will be more than one object that seems like it could match. In these cases, keep trying other suitable objects until you find the one that fits the best.
