Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints

What do I do with Trajarh's stones?

  • 1 of 13: This is the ultimate goal that Arok has been striving for the entire game.  We need to contact the spirit of the cavern, and the way to awaken the spirit is through the musical stones.  This puzzles takes place on the ground, where Trajarh's musical stones have been placed on a piece of skin.
  • 2 of 13: With this puzzle, you should have two sets of musical stones available to you -- Trajarh's on the skin in front of you; and your own stones that you used previously.  Using your bone "hammer" on either set will produce a tone.
  • 3 of 13: Hmm... seems that Trajarh's stones produce the same sounds as Arok's stones...
  • 4 of 13: ... just not in the same order.
  • 5 of 13: It seems that the expected thing to do, then, is to match the regular stones to the tones produced by the musical stones.
  • 6 of 13: Start by striking one of Trajarh's stones on the skin.  Then try to find which of Arok's stones makes the same tone.
  • 7 of 13: If you don't get it right immediately, do the same thing again.  Strike Trajarh's stone again, then another of Arok's stones.  When you find a match in this way (first Trajarh's then the matching one of Arok's) then the diagram from Trajarh's stone will be copied onto Arok's stone.  Continue in this way until you have matched up the tones from both sets of stones.
  • 8 of 13: The last step is to determine in what order to play the tones.  The diagram on the skin provides a clue.
  • 9 of 13: Each of the individual diagrams on the skin matches a diagram on one of Trajarh's stones.  Some diagrams are repeated more than once.
  • 10 of 13: The skin is Arok's "sheet music".  It actually contains only one row of diagrams, when read from left to right (as Arok sees them).
  • 11 of 13: The confusing part is where you might see a cluster of images -- loosely in columns and rows.  When you see such a cluster, you should mentally separate each of the columns to be equivalent to what you would find on one stone.  In other words, if you see a cluster of nine animals (roughly three rows and three columns), you should focus on the columns to determine how to proceed.  Look at the first column and see if you can find a musical stone that matches those symbols, then look at the second column and do the same, continuing through all the columns.  Using this interpretation, a cluster of symbols (3 rows and 3 columns) would be read as 3 columns of symbols, and be equal to 3 musical notes.
  • 12 of 13: When you are done examining the skin, you should have a mental image of a series of diagrams that can each be found on a musical stone.  All in all, you should be able to decipher 18 separate tones, based on the images painted on the skin, including Trajarh's stones placed amongst the other symbols on the skin.
  • 13 of 13: Play the tones on Arok's musical stones in the order indicated by the diagrams and stones on the skin.  Both the diagrams and stones (on the skin) are treated equally when it is time to play back the tones.  When the musical stones are played in the proper order you will see the spirit awaken and begin to dance.
