Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How do I solve the puzzle of the musical stones?
of 15: Before you can use the musical stones, you will need to solve all the other puzzles in the area.
of 15: Toar said to "follow the signs" to find the cave dwellings. The purpose of the stones may become clear if you follow Toar's instructions...
of 15: ...and look for the signs. The signs that Toar referred to are the paintings found on rocks in the area.
of 15: Go to the cliff-side location with the fallen tree. You should see paintings on the overhanging rocks. Once you have all five stones, clicking on the paintings will activate them.
of 15: Pick up the bone to begin. To use the bone on the musical stones, click the bone on the stones (one at a time). Observe the wall paintings while hitting the musical stones. Note: Be sure to use the cursor arrow to determine where to click, rather than the tip of the bone.
of 15: If you watch the wall paintings, you will find that one of the pictures changes color when each stone is hit. Starting with the one on the left, they change color from left to right.
of 15: When all four stones have changed color, if the stones were not hit in the correct order, then the puzzle will reset.
of 15: When the paintings change color, usually they change to black...
of 15: ...but sometimes they change to red.
of 15: The goal is to turn all four paintings on the wall to red.
of 15: There is only one stone that can change the first painting to red, only one that can change the second painting to red, etc.
of 15: When the puzzle has just been reset, try hitting the left-most stone four times.
of 15: The left-most stone changes all the symbols to black except the fourth one.
of 15: Do the same with the other stones (keeping notes as you do) until you know which stone turns which painting to red.
of 15: The painting on the far left will need to be turned red first. By referring to your notes, you can see that the fourth stone (from the left) turns this painting red. So now we know that the fourth stone will need to be used first. Do the same for each of the paintings, from left to right, until you know which stones to tap in which order.
