Echo: Secrets of the Lost Cavern Hints
How can I light the oil lamps?
of 13: Got any matches?
of 13: No? Perhaps you can think of another way to light the lamps.
of 13: When you picked up the Aurochs horn, you should have also found a long branch.
of 13: You can place the end of the long branch into the fire and use the burning tip to light the lamps.
of 13: The only trouble is, you cannot light the lamps one at a time.
of 13: Whenever you light one lamp, you will light two or three other lamps -- the lamps that are closest to the one being lit.
of 13: In addition, if a lamp is already lit, you could make that light go out if you use the burning branch on it (or on a lamp nearby).
of 13: If you have a chance to study the lamps before lighting any of them, it is relatively easy to see which lamps to light in order to get all of them lit at once.
of 13: The following solution will only work if none of the lamps are lit. If you already have some of them lit, you will need to continue to the next hint and continue reading for more specific instructions.
of 13: It's a bit harder to solve the puzzle once some of the lamps are lit, but it is not impossible. What you should try to do is work your way across the lamps, from one side to the other, focusing on lighting one lamp at a time.
of 13: You could start in the top left corner and work your way across to the right. If the top left lamp and the bottom left corner lamp need to be lit, then you can use the long branch on the top left lamp to light them both. If, however, only one of the lamps needs to be lit, then you should use the long branch on the lamp just to the right of the one that needs to be lit.
of 13: From this point onward, you should only focus on one lamp at a time, and you should light the lamps by touching the long branch to the lamp immediately to the right of the one you would like to light. For example, if the second lamp (from the left) in the top row needs to be lit, then you should use the branch on the third lamp (from the left) in the top row. If the second lamp in the bottom row also needs to be lit, then you should also use the long branch on the third lamp in the bottom row.
of 13: Continue in this way, working across the rows of lamps, from one end to the other. Work on lighting one lamp at a time, top then bottom, before moving onto the next set of two lamps. If done methodically like this, you will soon reach the other end.
