The Egyptian Prophecy: The Fate of Ramses Hints

How do I pass the third guardian?

  • 1 of 11: You need to identify (find) the guard with the heart of feathers.  You could always use trial and error (since there are only five possible choices).  However, this puzzle is not difficult, and is similar to many simple logic puzzles, where deductive reasoning is the answer.
  • 2 of 11: The first two clues help you define which is the "small guard" with a "heart of stone".  There are only two smaller guards, and one is the rightmost one.  Since nothing could be to the right of that one, the guard of stone must be the other small guard -- the second from the left.
  • 3 of 11: Watch for other "positional" clues, such as "right of" or "between", as well as references to the various materials (e.g., gold, stone, lapis lazuli).
  • 4 of 11: It may help to draw out on paper the various relationships between the guards.
  • 5 of 11: Combine clues where there are references to the same guard (e.g., there are three references to the guard with a "heart of stone").
  • 6 of 11: Gold is to the right of stone; papyrus is to the right of gold.
  • 7 of 11: Lapis lazuli is between stone and gold.
  • 8 of 11: The solution is easier than it appears.  Pay attention to how many guards are to the right of stone.
  • 9 of 11: Count them up: stone, plus gold, plus papyrus, plus lapis Lazuli -- four guards.
  • 10 of 11: Since we know that the guard with a heart of stone is the second guard (from the left), and we know that the other three guards must be positioned to the right of the second guard, then the guard with a heart of feathers must be the only one left -- the leftmost one.
  • 11 of 11: Going from left to right, the full solution is 1) feathers, 2) stone, 3) lapis lazuli, 4) gold, 5) papyrus.
