The Egyptian Prophecy: The Fate of Ramses Hints

I cannot defeat this snake! Can you give me a solution?

  • 1 of 26: Let's look at one possible solution -- little by little -- using it as an example of what Maya can do.  This way, you can stop at any point, and attempt to finish off the battle on your own.
  • 2 of 26: The following moves will normally lead to defeat of the snake.  Although, on occasion, the snake will make a move slightly different than usual.  Most movements of the snake are not detailed here.  But if it seems that you cannot hit the snake as described in the hints, it's possible that the snake has moved differently.  If this happens, you can choose to either continue catching the snake on your own; or to allow the snake to catch Maya and restart from the beginning again.  This solution will work more often than not.
  • 3 of 26: To simplify referring to the movements within the puzzle, we'll need to differentiate two things: whether, on Maya's turn, she should move, or cast a spell; and to which square she should direct her attention (either for moving, or for casting a spell).
  • 4 of 26: You may wish to make notes on a piece of paper.  The puzzle is played on a 6x4 grid.  Label the columns A through F (from left to right).  Label the rows 1 through 4 (from top to bottom).  Thus, the top left square will be A1, and the bottom right square will be F4.
  • 5 of 26: On Maya's first three moves, cast a spell (right click) on the three squares immediately in front of, and diagonal to her:  B2, B3, and B4.  Do not move onto any of them yet.  This has the effect of building up a bit of a defense.
  • 6 of 26: Note that after three moves, the snake has still not moved.  (If you want, you can experiment further with how far Maya can go with her spell-casting before the snake will decide to move.)
  • 7 of 26: On Maya's fourth turn, move onto square B3.  Note that the snake now decides to make a move.
  • 8 of 26: From this position, use Maya's next two turns to cast spells (right click) on squares C3 and C2 (in that order).  The snake moves closer, but Maya is still on a protected square.  (Remember, it will take the snake two moves to harm Maya when she is on a protected square: one to neutralize the square, and another to kill her.  That gives her additional time to move away from danger.)
  • 9 of 26: Move onto square C2.  The goal now is to do a "dance" around the snake.  You want to get to the snake's tail, without having it come into a position of attack against Maya.
  • 10 of 26: From square C2, have Maya cast a spell on D2, and then move there on her next turn.  (Do not worry that the snake will begin neutralizing squares behind Maya.)
  • 11 of 26: From D2, cast a spell on E2, and then move there on Maya's next turn.  Now Maya is getting into position to get behind the snake.  Although it is turning upward at this point, its length is now to its detriment, as it is "dragging its tail behind it."
  • 12 of 26: Before moving again, use Maya's next few turns to cast spells on several other squares around her.  This will not do as much now, as it will set up a defense against the snake later.  Begin by casting a spell on square F3 (which is where Maya will be moving shortly -- but not quite yet).  That gives her a "safety net", should the snake come any closer.
  • 13 of 26: Next, cast spells on squares F2 and E1.
  • 14 of 26: Now it's time to begin to use Maya's advantage of moving diagonally.
  • 15 of 26: On Maya's next turn, move to square F3.
  • 16 of 26: Note that Maya is now within reach of the snake's tail.
  • 17 of 26: From square F3, attack (right click) the segment of the snake on square E4.  One down, three to go!.
  • 18 of 26: Let's take the offensive by first casting a spell on square E4, and then moving to that square one turn later.
  • 19 of 26: Note that the snake is now "on the run".  Maya has stayed pretty much out of the snake's vision.  So it will need to try to turn toward her a bit.  Not to worry, though, as Maya is still fairly safe where she is.
  • 20 of 26: Time to pursue the attack.  First cast a spell to neutralize square D4.
  • 21 of 26: Now the snake is vulnerable, so strike (right-click) at square D4.  The snake is reduced to 50% of its length.
  • 22 of 26: Since D4 is a good direction to go, use Maya's next two turns to first protect (cast a spell on) square D4, and then move to D4.
  • 23 of 26: From this point, you should have a pretty good idea of how to finish off this beast.  Note that, as Maya moves along, there are several key points to her strategy.  Stay behind the snake; neutralize squares that the snake left behind; move diagonally, when possible; and always protect squares before moving onto them.  You might want to try to take it from here.  If not, the remaining hints will help you finish the job.
  • 24 of 26: From D4, we want to use Maya's diagonal movement advantage, so first neutralize, then strike on square C3.  On her next two turns, protect and then move to the same square.  Only one more segment to go, before the snake is defeated!
  • 25 of 26: Keep following the snake in this manner.  Use another diagonal move by first protecting, then moving to, square D2.
  • 26 of 26: Strike on square E2.  Victory!!
