The Egyptian Prophecy: The Fate of Ramses Hints
How does this puzzle work?
of 9: Note the six discs, and the cutouts in each of them. Note also the key that is intended to go through all six discs -- although not necessarily all at the same time.
of 9: There are four controls for the key: two straight arrows to move it laterally (forward and backward), and two curved arrows to rotate it either clockwise or counterclockwise. On occasion (like, for example, at the start of the puzzle) there will only be one arrow for lateral movement, when it is not possible to move the key in both directions.
of 9: The key can rotate freely in any position within the stack of discs. That is, the two rotational arrows will always be available, even if one or both of the forward/backward arrow keys are not.
of 9: Some movements are impossible, due to a lack of alignment of the cutouts with the protrusions on the key. You may find yourself in a position where the key cannot move forward or backward (due to a lack of aligned cutouts). You will need to rotate the key to another position, until you can move either forward or backward, and continue working from there.
of 9: There are only two protrusions on the key. It is important to note that they are two spaces apart (relative to the discs). One of the implications of this is that you cannot turn two consecutive discs at the same time.
of 9: But there are also places on the key that have no protrusions, and that allow the key to turn within a disc without moving the disc.
of 9: You may also have noticed the six green buttons along the top of the coffer -- one aligned with each rotating disc.
of 9: The goal of the puzzle is to rotate the discs correctly, and move the key back and forth as you do, in such a way as to get all of the discs aligned with the red rod at the front of the coffer. Each disc has a small cutout on its outer edge that must align with this rod. When any disc is in the correct position, its green button will pop up. When all six discs are aligned correctly (i.e., all six buttons show green), the puzzle is solved.
of 9: The puzzle can be restarted at any time (with all discs in their original position) by clicking on the Restart button in the upper right section of the game window.
