Agatha Christie: Evil Under the Sun Hints
Why won't Poirot follow him past the beach?
1 of 3: The situation, though it's kind of hard to tell, is that the island is connected to the mainland by a causeway, a sort of raised walkway, which in this case is under water half the time because of the tides. It's possible to walk across to the mainland, if you don't mind being up to your shins in cold seawater.
2 of 3: Have you ever seen what salt water does to patent leather shoes? It's not a pretty sight, and Poirot cares way too much about what his shoes look like. So he's not going to follow North, and there's nothing you can do to make him.
3 of 3: If you want to get across the bay, you'll have to call for the sea tractor.
