Is it ESSENTIAL to visit the Well at all?

  • The Well is one of the eight locations marked on the Top-View Map of the Frozen Lands.  Near the Well is a voluble hunter, a creature, some artifacts and inscriptions.  There is an inventory item which has to be obtained elsewhere, and some actions to perform; etc., etc. 

    ** It is ~essential~ to reach the bottom of the Well somehow. **

    I would imagine that the designers of the game intended you to actually ~go~ there, since there is no other location marked on a Top-View Map in the whole game which you can omit entirely and still complete it.  Most players will probably choose this route anyhow, and it provides an extra bit of gameplay.

    There is, however, an alternative method.  If, for any reason, you skip descending the Well, you can get directly to its rear exit and complete the whole game perfectly well (or play it both ways if you wish).  You will nevertheless still have to perform the essential actions at the bottom of the Well.
