Fable Hints

Gameplay Alternatives and 'Redundancies'

  • Several alternative routes can often be taken in order to achieve identical results.  Some are shorter; others lengthier.

A few of these routes are completely redundant to the final objective, which is basically to finish the previous World and start the next one.

There are even occasional sequences which seem to be essential to your progress but actually could be skipped entirely.  Since some of these are marked prominently on Top-View Maps, most players will probably pursue at least one of them without ever realizing that in reality it was really totally superfluous (at least to completely finish the game satisfactorily).

The above-mentioned routes are sometimes cleverly disguised blind alleys and may quite likely be followed.  They frequently seem obvious; and as in any Quest, every possible journey is perfectly valid.

At the very least, some of these apparently redundant routes often add some interesting gameplay or background story or hints, even though they could actually be completely bypassed without affecting any of the possible final outcomes in any way.

It would be almost impossible to cover all the different permutations and combinations.  These Hints cover routines which are frequently not necessarily the shortest or even always the 'best', but which attempt to cover all of the many alternative gameplays.

It is quite likely that you may come across an occurrence which is mentioned in these Hints, but which you don't encounter in your particular way of playing the game; and possibly vice versa.  So don't worry too much if your gameplay deviates somewhat from that described here, or if you occasionally get different characters appearing, or events happening -- or the opposite!
