Gaining Renown
How well known you are affects several things, including how people react to your presence and whether or not you can get some silver (optional) quests. You can always check your renown level by choosing "Hero Status" and then "Personality" from the in-game menu.
Ways to add to your renown include finishing quests, killing monsters (especially tough "boss" monsters), showing off your trophies from boss fights and contests, and getting married.
To show off a trophy in an area, find it in your inventory under "Items / Trophies" and use it. Big yellow question marks will appear over the heads of everyone in the area, and a timer will appear under the mini map. Use the Interact key to hold up the trophy so everyone nearby can see it, and their question marks will disappear. Your goal is to run around and show the trophy to everyone in the area before the time runs out. Here are some tips for maximizing your trophy-showing renown:
* If you're well respected, you can ask regular townspeople to follow you around using the "follow" expression. Use this to herd them all together before you start the trophy-showing mini-game so that you can show it to them all quickly and easily.
* If you can't herd people around like that, then try to catch them when they're gathered together, like in a tavern or dining hall in the evening. Also, be sure to start the trophy showing in a place with a lot of people since you'll get a big time bonus for it.
* The best places to try the above are in large towns full of people. The Heroes' Guild and Bowerstone South are two of the best places at first, and Knothole Glade is good for later in the game since it has a few more people in it.
* If you don't do so well, you can always try again. As long as you beat your current best "score" for the trophy you're showing, you'll get renown points.
