Fable: The Lost Chapters Hints
Find the Archaeologist
of 16: This quest is automatically given to you as soon as you finish talking to Maze in the previous quest.
of 16: The Witchwood Cullis Gate area can now be teleported to, so zap yourself there to start the quest.
of 16: After hacking all the thorny bushes and finding the treasure chest with the resurrection phial in it, head north down the long path to meet what will probably be your very first rock troll.
of 16: This is a *much* more powerful creature than the earth trolls, so be sure to have Physical Shield on and plenty of will potions on the quickbar no matter how you decide to attack it.
of 16: After it's reduced to pebbles, move on down the path to where there's a bashable barrel with an Ages of the Will potion on the ground next to it. Another good place to do a "hero save" and restore (unless you really don't want to deal with the rock troll again).
of 16: Soon after you enter the Witchwood Stones area, you'll encounter the demon door that you need to open in order to find the archeologist.
of 16: First, though, you may want to run north a ways and hack some bushes to find an obsidian greathammer in a treasure chest. There are also chainmail gauntlets in a chest in the NE corner of the area.
of 16: As for the demon door's name, you could go to the Temple of Avo area and give the guy standing near the temple a ruby to learn it, but it's pretty easy to work out for yourself.
of 16: Check out the four large stones in the Witchwood Stones area that are marked by green dots on the mini map.
of 16: Interact with each stone to learn what letter it represents.
of 16: The letters are I, H, T, and S, so what four-letter words can you make out of that?
of 16: You can make H-I-T-S, T-H-I-S, and (of course) S-H-I-T.
of 16: Pick one of those and spell it out by hitting the stones with your melee weapon in that order.
of 16: WARNING: If you spell out S-H-I-T, a couple of balverines will appear and attack you for your profanity.
of 16: Experimentation will show that H-I-T-S is what you need to spell out on the stones to get the demon door open.
of 16: Go through the door and into the Witchwood Cavern to find the archaeologist and finish the quest. (Don't forget to loot the cavern of its treasures before you go, including the silver chest.)
