Fable: The Lost Chapters Hints
The Arena
1 of 11: This quest is put on the guild map table after you finish the white balverine quest.
2 of 11: After getting its card, teleport to Knothole Glade and then make your way north past the Witchwood Lake to the Arena Entrance.
3 of 11: At the front door, talk to a guard to be admitted into the anteroom and to start the quest officially.
4 of 11: TIP: Before you go in, you might want to shop around with various traders for some carrots, red meat, and fish. If you use Physical Shield during your Arena fights like you should, you can often get a *huge* combat multiplier, and you'll want to chomp some XP-giving produce at that time. (Also, it helps to have saved up some "ages of" potions for this event.)
5 of 11: After the orientation cut-scene is over, talk to the local trader and buy yourself some health and will potions if you need them. He also has some armor and resurrection phials, as well as a few weapon augmentations and some of the above-mentioned XP-giving produce.
6 of 11: Then you can play some blackjack or just wait around until the previous contestant gets killed.
7 of 11: When you get a cut-scene informing you of that, head for the anteroom's north door and talk to the green-lit guard and say you're ready.
8 of 11: In the eight rounds of combat that follow (most of which have several waves of attackers), I found that having Physical Shield on and doing some serious sword-swinging with a legendary weapon worked beautifully the whole time (as long as I kept an eye on my magic power line and had lots of will potions on the item quickbar). If your character is well-developed enough, you can probably use whatever combat style you prefer and do just fine, but read on if you want some tips and info on each round.
9 of 11: Following is some specific information and advice on the eight rounds of combat. Note that you can take a breather in the waiting room after each round, but you won't win much gold that way. Physical Shield and lots of will potions should keep you going indefinitely.
Also note that after you finish off the last wave of attackers in a round, you have a short amount of time before the next cut-scene kicks in. Use that time to consume XP-giving items if your combat multiplier got way high, or run around picking up remains from monsters (and stuff that the crowd throws to you if it's happy with your performance).
10 of 11: You've really proven yourself by the time you finish round 8, but you're not done with this quest yet! Some fancy character calling himself Jack of Blades will show up and challenge you to fight Whisper to the death in a surprise finale.
