Fallout: New Vegas Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints

Level-Up Perks

  • * Alertness (Level 12, Perception 6-9): This perk adds 2 to your Perception attribute whenever you're crouched and not moving or turning at all.

    * Walker Instinct (Level 18, Survival 50): This perk gives you a +1 to both Agility and Perception when you're outside.

    * Irradiated Beauty (Level 22, Endurance 8): With this perk, sleeping in a bed removes all of your rads in addition to the usual benefits.

    * Voracious Reader (Level 22, Intelligence 7): This perk causes damaged books you pick up to be converted into blank magazines, which you can use at workbenches to make copies of any skill magazines you have. You can also convert them into undamaged pre-war books.

    * Lessons Learned (Level 26, Intelligence 6): This perk gives you an XP percentage bonus equal to your level. For instance, if you're level 32, you'll get a bonus of +32% on all XP earned.

    * Tunnel Runner (Level 26, Agility 8): This perk increases your movement speed by 25% when you're sneaking as long as you're wearing light (or no) armor.

    * Roughin' It (Level 28, Survival 100): This perk gets you the Well Rested XP bonus every time you sleep on a bed that's outside.

    * Burden to Bear (Level 30, Strength 6, Endurance 6): This perk increases your item-carrying capacity by 50 pounds, just like the Strong Back perk. Get both to increase your carrying capacity by 100 pounds.

    * Broad Daylight (Level 36): With this perk, sneaking around with the Pip-Boy light on gives you a +15 to Sneak.

    * Certified Tech (Level 40): This perk gives you a +25% critical chance against robots, plus you'll get more useful components from them. (Note that the increased critical chance doesn't seem to work. Can't they ever get that sort of thing right?)

    * Ain't Like That Now (Level 50, karma <= 250): This perk will do a whole bunch of stuff for you. It'll reset your karma to zero, make you totally immune to critical hits, increase your attack speed by 20%, reduce all weapons' action point costs by 20%, and increase your action point regeneration by 25%. (Note that the AP regen increase actually does work, unlike with the Nerves of Steel perk.)

    * Just Lucky I'm Alive (Level 50, karma between -250 and 250): This perk also does several things for you. It makes you immune to critical hits, it increases your critical damage with any weapon by 50%, and it gives you a +4 to Luck for three minutes every time you finish a combat with less than 25% of your max health.

    * Thought You Died (Level 50, karma >= 250): This perk also gives you several effects. It resets your karma to zero, it makes you immune to critical hits, it increases your damage with any weapon by 10%, and it increases your current (not max) health by 20. (Note that the perk's description says you get 10 health points per 100 points of karma, but that's not true.)

NOTE: Right before you get enough XP to reach level 50, look through the three karma-related level 50 perks. Decide which one (if any) you want, then check your karmic category and see if you need to adjust it. For instance, if your karmic category is "very good" and you want the "Just Lucky I'm Alive" perk for its critical damage increase, you'd need to steal a bunch of owned items and/or repeatedly access an owned terminal until your karmic category was "neutral." If you need to raise your karma instead, go kill a bunch of fiends and feral ghouls.
