Survive the elevator ride to Ashton Missile Silo.
1 of 3: As soon as the lift starts moving, run into its NW corner (the one opposite the activation console) and crouch down.
2 of 3: Get out either the Industrial hand and/or chainsaw, or your highest-powered automatic weapon with hollow point ammo loaded. A bunch of tunnelers are going to be dropping onto the lift and attacking you.
3 of 3: Stay in your corner and kill them as quickly as you can. Hopefully, ED-E won't get knocked out right away, and will be able to help distract them.
