Fallout: New Vegas Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
Hazard Tips
1 of 7: As you explore and loot, there are various hazards to watch out for. Besides radroaches, you'll encounter a new type of humanoid enemy called ghosts. They're primarily melee combatants, though some of them have throwing knives and spears. Try to keep your distance while fighting them.
2 of 7: One really annoying feature of ghosts is that they'll get back up and regain all of their health after you take them down if none of their limbs were destroyed. Do your best to blow off one of their limbs (shotguns and explosives are great for this) so they'll stay down. Their heads are good to target when you're fighting them up close in V.A.T.S. mode or sneak-shooting them with a scoped weapon (like the holorifle).
3 of 7: Another good tactic is to sneakily shoot a ghost down with the holorifle, then run up to it and quickly slash it several times with a knife before it can regain consciousness. Or instead of sniping it down, get close to it and V.A.T.S.-attack it with a knife, slashing it several more times as soon as it goes down. (Note that once you get the Ghost Hunter perk, sniping ghosts down becomes a lot easier.)
4 of 7: There are also areas infected by toxic clouds (look for the red mist) that are painful to move through. It's best to quicksave before entering such an area, then explore around it carefully for supplies. Once you know where everything is, quickrestore and run get what you want as fast as you can. (Note that it helps to have Dean with you.)
5 of 7: A far worse hazard is all the speakers and radios that are in some areas (not the outdoor Villa area, fortunately) that can cause your collar to explode. The game warns you whenever you enter the range of an active speaker or radio, and you have several seconds to exit its range before detonation. (Having Christine with you helps extend your time.)
6 of 7: Speakers can be hard to spot, though there's sometimes graffiti on a wall near them to help point them out. Some speakers can be shot out in order to remove their danger, and some can't. For the ones that can't, there's often a terminal nearby that you can use (if you can get to it safely) to shut off all nearby speakers. If you can't find such a terminal, you'll have to run past the speakers without shutting them off.
7 of 7: Radios are a bit different. They're not hooked together into any kind of centrally-controlled system, so you can't shut them off in groups by using a terminal. On the other hand, there's no such thing as in indestructible radio. Once you find a radio, you can always shoot it out. It's also usually possible to run up to a radio and activate it to turn it off, thereby saving ammo.
