Fallout: New Vegas Hints
YCS/186
1 of 5: This unique gauss rifle has the following advantages over regular gauss rifles: 16.7% more damage, 16.7% more critical damage, 25% more health, uses 20% less ammo per shot. It also has the following disadvantages: 55% lower base V.A.T.S. to-hit chance, 20% smaller clip size, 12.5% heavier.
2 of 5: The mercenary who has the YCS/186 will be at secondary location a on the Zone 1 Map if you didn't take the Wild Wasteland trait. Otherwise, there'll be some aliens there with the Alien Blaster.
3 of 5: After you kill all of the mercs (preferably from a distance with a scoped weapon), loot them all until you find the YCS/186.
4 of 5: This is one of the two most powerful scoped sniping weapons in the game, with the other one being the anti-materiel rifle. Which one you prefer will depend on which skill (Guns or Energy Weapons) is higher. If they're about the same, the YCS/186 will be a bit better. If you want an anti-materiel rifle, check with the vendortron at Gun Runners (location 43 on the Zone 1 Map) once you're level 16+, or go to Knight Torres (see the "Still in the Dark" Brotherhood of Steel faction quest) at any level.
5 of 5: NOTE: A game update made the anti-material rifle quite a bit more powerful, so it'll be better unless your Energy Weapons skill is *much* higher than your Guns skill.
