Fallout: New Vegas Hints

Hunting the Legendary Night Stalker

  • 1 of 11: The unique night stalker called "legendary night stalker" is in the Bloodborne Cave (location 10 on the Zone 2 Map). Be sure to bring along two followers and your best guns and ammo. A few mines and grenades would also be handy, as would a missile launcher.
  • 2 of 11: Watch for a few fire geckos, night stalkers, and/or cazadors in the area outside the cave, then go inside and move forward to a path intersection.
  • 3 of 11: If you turn left, you could go into a large cave, drop down to the lower floor, and then look straight ahead (NW) to find the legendary night stalker next to a campfire. You might even be able to fight him without any other night stalkers joining. However, you can't get back to the exit by retracing your steps, so it's better to go around the long way.
  • 4 of 11: Go straight at the path split to reach a large empty cave room, then turn left and head down the next passage until you come to another large cave. This one has two night stalkers in the back behind a large boulder, and two more may run in as you fight them. If not, expect to meet them in the next passage.
  • 5 of 11: That's all of the night stalkers in the cave except for the six that are with the legendary one. They're all together in the cave room that's at the end of the passage, and will probably all detect you at once when you go down there. You'll definitely want to quicksave right after finishing off the first four night stalkers in case you get overwhelmed.
  • 6 of 11: One thing you can do is retreat all the way back to the first cave room (SE corner of the area) and have your followers wait for you there, then set several mine clusters down the passage between them and the legendary night stalker's area.
  • 7 of 11: Sneak down to where your stealth indicator goes to "[CAUTION]," then quickly back up to see if any night stalkers will follow you far enough to hit some of your mines. If not, try again. Or sneak up to where you can toss a grenade so that it bounces into their area, then stand up and run back past at least two mine clusters before stopping.
  • 8 of 11: If they don't follow you and hit your mines, sneak back and toss another grenade at them. You may not even need your mines if you keep using grenades and run away fast enough.
  • 9 of 11: Another strategy for getting the night stalkers' attention after setting your mines is to use a missile launcher on them from a strategic position. Go back to the path split near the exit, then head down the NW branch. Don't drop down to the lower floor of the large cave, but crouch down on the upper floor and fire a couple of missiles through the opening to the NW that leads to the legendary night stalker's area.
  • 10 of 11: Quicksave first in case you don't aim right. If you hit any of the stalkers, your stealth indicator should go to "[CAUTION]," and you should get messages about night stalkers' crippled limbs. However, don't keep firing missiles, since most or all of the stalkers will start running down the passage that you mined after the first hit.
  • 11 of 11: Hopefully, they'll hit your mines and get blown up. Note that only mine clusters set fairly close to their area are likely to be triggered, since they haven't seen you and therefore won't try to come all the way to you. In any case, sneak down that way and finish off any survivors. (Note that this can be a good strategy even if you don't set mines, since it'll probably break the large night stalker group up into two or three smaller groups that you and your followers can handle easily.)
