Fallout: New Vegas Hints
The Secret of Vault 11
of 16: Vault 11 (location 37 on the Zone 2 Map) is something much more sinister than just Fallout NV's "vermin vault." It holds a terrible secret that you can both discover and fall victim to if you're not careful.
of 16: After entering the vault, hang back and shoot at giant mantises and bark scorpions, then go through the large open vault entry door.
of 16: Past some skeleton-strewn stairs is a terminal you can use to download a security recording. After you do, listen to it in the Data/Misc section of your Pip-Boy.
of 16: Go through the door near the terminal and start exploring the rest of the area. Watch for vermin to kill and weird election campaign posters.
of 16: There are also three public access terminals (including in the classroom near the entry area) that all have the same three entries on them. Reading through them, you'll realize that the vault's big secret has something to do with electing the overseer -- and no one wants to be overseer. There's even mention of a murderer who would be a good candidate if he's caught!
of 16: Go down sets of stairs and head north until you find the door to the Vault 11 Living Quarters area. Go down the stairs past it and clear out the vermin in the common room, then head down the stairs that lead to the male dorm area.
of 16: Kill the mantises in the second room on the left, then hack into its personal terminal and download the security recording. (The other three entries are the same as the ones on the public terminals you've already seen.)
of 16: Listen to the recording, which is a conversation two guys are having about Katherine Stone's changing of the overseer selection process, then return to the common room and go through the admin door.
of 16: Turn left at the path split and use the terminal in the security room to view a deposition of Katherine Stone. It seems that the murderer was caught, and did indeed become the next overseer. What a vault!
of 16: Go to the north end of the hallway and down the stairs, then enter the Vault 11 Lower Level area and go down some more stairs. Past the corner, go over to the overseer's office doorway, then crouch down and move through it slowly, looking for a tripwire to disarm.
of 16: Check the small desk in the back of the office to find the overseer's terminal. Unfortunately, it's locked and unhackable.
of 16: Retrace your route to return to the overseer's office, then use its terminal to open the sacrificial chamber.
of 16: Go down the stairs and through a door, then head down the long tunnel and "go into the light." Note the recorded message's reference to you as "martyr."
of 16: When you enter the room at the end of the tunnel, the voice will tell you to sit in the chair to start the show. Quicksave first, then sit in the chair and watch the idiotic slideshow.
of 16: After it's over, the room's east and west walls will open up, revealing several hostile robots and ceiling turrets. There's nowhere to run, since the door that you came in through is now locked.
of 16: Go through the door in the east robot room to find the vault's mainframe computer, then access it and override the lockdown so you can leave. Before you do, download its two recordings to get 500 XP, then listen to them to fill in the last few pieces of the puzzle.
