Fallout: New Vegas Hints
How can I pickpocket a weapon that a person has equipped?
of 10: If it's a ranged weapon, pickpocket the ammo that the person has for it.
of 10: Leave the area, quicksave and quickrestore, then return in order to get him to unequip the weapon due to lack of ammo.
of 10: You can then quicksave next to him and pickpocket it from him. (Note that if it's particularly heavy or valuable, it may take many tries.)
of 10: If you're wanting a melee weapon, you'll have to give the person who's wielding it a better one. ("Better" meaning a higher damage rating.)
of 10: You give the new melee weapon to the person by pickpocketing him and clicking on the weapon in your inventory. That will attempt to transfer it to his inventory.
of 10: Always quicksave before trying this, since you can get caught -- just the same as if you were trying to take something.
of 10: Once you successfully transfer the new melee weapon to the person's inventory, leave the area, quicksave and quickrestore, then return in order to get him to equip it. (If he doesn't, it must not have a high enough damage rating.)
of 10: After he switches to the weapon you gave him, quicksave and pickpocket him to get the one you're after. (Note that if it's particularly heavy or valuable, it may take many tries.)
of 10: If you don't know what the damage rating is on an equipped melee weapon that you're wanting to get, you could quicksave, kill the NPC, check the damage rating on the weapon you want, then quickrestore and pickpocket-give him something with a higher damage rating.
of 10: Or you could just try giving him something with a fairly high damage rating on it, hoping it's high enough.
