Fallout: New Vegas Hints

Fixing the Nerves of Steel Perk

  • 1 of 12: Yes, they messed up the Nerves of Steel perk again! Fortunately, you can fix it in the same way that you could in Fallout 3.
  • 2 of 12: Run Fallout: New Vegas' G.E.C.K. program and load the FalloutNV.esm file into it.
  • 3 of 12: Bring up the Gameplay menu and click on "Edit Scripts...", then open the script named DLC03APRegenScript.
  • 4 of 12: Find the line that has a slash followed by a 10 on the end of it, and change the 10 to something smaller.
  • 5 of 12: To make action points regenerate about 50% faster, change the 10 to 0.75. To double the normal regen rate, use 0.25 instead. Or if you'd rather have the regen rate be 20% faster as was apparently intended, change the 10 to a 2.
  • 6 of 12: Close the script editing window and click on "Yes" when it asks if you want to save the current script, then go to the Object Window and click on "Perk" under the "Actor Data" tab.
  • 7 of 12: Find "DLC03NervesOfSteel" in the Editor ID column, then right-click on it and choose "Edit."
  • 8 of 12: Down in the "Perk Entries" section, right-click on "Action Point Regen" and choose "Edit" again.
  • 9 of 12: In the window that comes up, click on the little circle to the left of the word "Ability" to select it, then click on the down arrow to the right of it and choose "DLC03PerkNervesOfSteel" from the scrollable list.
  • 10 of 12: Click on "OK" twice to close the edit windows, then go to the File menu and choose "Save."
  • 11 of 12: Type in the name for your new ESP file and click on "Save" to get it saved on the hard drive.
  • 12 of 12: The next time you run the game, use the "Data Files" option on the launcher menu to enable your new ESP file. That way, getting the Nerves of Steel perk will make your action points regenerate noticeably faster.
