Fallout: New Vegas Hints

Level 14 Perks

  • * Adamantium Skeleton: This perk reduces all limb damage you take by 50%. This sounds good, especially for hardcore mode players, but it's usually easy enough to heal limbs with stimpaks, doctor bags, doctor visits, or whatever. (Note that there's a challenge perk that will reduce limb damage by 20%.)

    * Center of Mass (Guns 70): This perk lets you do 15% more damage to an enemy's torso in V.A.T.S. mode. However, head shots always do extra damage without any perks, and the head isn't much harder to hit than the torso if you're close to an enemy (which is when V.A.T.S. is most useful).

    * Chemist (Medicine 60): With this perk, any chem that you take will last twice as long. This is generally useless unless you're wanting to get the most out of the rare stealth boy items, since they count as chems. Even so, you'll probably prefer other perks to this one. (Especially since having Lily as a follower will double your stealth boys' durations, and getting the Day Tripper challenge perk will add another 33% onto that.)

    * Jury Rigging (Repair 90): This perk expands your options on what you can use to repair your worn equipment with. For example, you can fix a trail carbine with a hunting rifle, and repair power armor with metal armor. Getting your Repair skill up to 90 or higher should be a fairly early-game goal anyway, and this perk will complement it nicely.

    * Light Step (Perception 6, Agility 6): With this perk, you can run right over a trap without setting it off. This includes bear traps, tripwire traps, and frag mines. However, the convenience of this perk is greatly offset by the fact that there are many other perks that are far more useful. Quicksave often and look for traps so you can not only avoid damage from them, but disarm them for XP.

    * Purifier: This perk gives you a 50% damage bonus against abominations like deathclaws, super mutants, and feral ghouls as long as you're using a melee or unarmed weapon. Yeah, I can see it now. You walk up to a deathclaw and start punching it in the face. Riiiiight. Stealth-focused characters who depend on powerful melee or unarmed attacks for sneak-attack criticals can reap big benefits from this perk, but no one else should even consider it.

Jury Rigging is a great perk for anyone who meets its high skill requirement, and Purifier might be useful if you have a melee-oriented stealth character. Otherwise, look to the previous perk lists for possibilities.
