Fallout: New Vegas Hints

Level 22 thru 28 Perks

  • * Laser Commander (level 22, Energy Weapons 90): This perk is a must-have for any energy weapons specialist who prefers using laser weapons. It increases the damage you do by 15% and your critical chance by 10%. Gatling laser fanatics rejoice!

    * Nuka Chemist (level 22, Science 90): With this perk, you can make weird varieties of Nuka-Cola at workbenches, including Nuka-Cola Quartz and Nuka-Cola Victory. This isn't very useful, even though the victory variety is needed to make the powerful Atomic Cocktails (which give a Survival-skill-dependent amount of fire and energy resistance).

    * Spray and Pray (level 22): With this perk, your "friendly fire" does much less damage to any followers you have with you, thereby removing any worries about your wild and careless attacks seriously hurting them. Why not just be more careful with your attacks, and refrain from using area-of-effect weapons near followers? Explosives specialists could conceivably benefit from this perk, especially if they're playing on hardcore mode, but they'll probably be too busy grabbing up better explosive-related perks like Demolition Expert (three ranks), Hit the Deck, and Splash Damage.

    * Slayer (level 24): This perk increases the speed of all melee and unarmed attacks by 30%. Sounds good, but it's irrelevant in V.A.T.S. combat, which is what you should usually use for up-close combat.

    * Nerves of Steel (level 26, Agility 7): This perk causes your action points to regenerate 20% faster than normal, and is therefore very useful for everyone. Or at least, that's the theory. The fact is, they screwed this perk up again, just like they did in Fallout 3's Broken Steel expansion. Don't take it unless you "fix" it using the method given in the PC Cheat Codes section.

    * Rad Absorption (level 28, Endurance 7): This perk slowly reduces your rad count over time as long as you're not being irradiated. That's very unuseful, especially since you can chomp radaways for much faster rad reduction whenever you need to.

Nerves of Steel (if fixed) is great for just about anyone, and Laser Commander is a must-have for laser weapon specialists. Other than that, look back for useful perks you passed by before.
