Fallout Hints

Attributes

  • Your attributes (such as Strength, Agility, and Intelligence) are vital to your performance in Fallout. There are very few ways to alter these statistics once your character has been created. This means that your starting character selection or creation will have a huge effect on what your gaming experience will be like.

No attribute is necessarily more important than another. The characters will simply have different experiences. A strong character can muscle his way through the game. A charismatic character can talk his way through the game. A lucky character will find enough goodies to make him a very rich, powerful character. And so on...

If you've already beaten Fallout, try playing with a very different character than what you tried the first time. You'll be surprised at how much of a different game it is if you utilize your skills effectively.

High skills in certain areas may be able to offset poor attributes (e.g., a high Speech skill may help a low Charisma character), but your best bet is to have high attributes which correspond to your planned style of gameplay.

You can always temporarily raise your attributes through the use of drugs available throughout the game. Certain drugs raise certain attributes. This way you can use the appropriate drugs just before a big fight, or an important conversation, etc. However, be careful of the "downer" of the drug after your "high".

There is one way to permanently boost your attributes in the game. However, do not rely on this. There are some catches:

    1) You will run across it quite a bit later in the game.
    2) It costs a considerable amount of money.
    3) It takes a considerable amount of time.
    4) You can only raise each attribute by a total of one point.
